plugging along

January 29, 2008

i’ve done really well so far in the last few days diet-wise. yesterday i was toward the top of my calorie range but still within my allotted amounts. today, i was right at the bottom, in fact one calorie below my minimum amount. but, i’m not hungry, which is good. yesterday was one of those days where i just couldn’t get enough to eat. i’m surprised i didn’t go over my calories. i didn’t exercise today, but i did sunday and monday, so it was ok taking today off. tomorrow, i’ll be back at it again.

January 25, 2008

weigh-in: 163.2

that’s right, i’m down 1.2 pounds this week, which is pretty good since i only worked out twice this week after taking several days off. it was much better than i was hoping for, so i’m happy.

i got a good workout in yesterday, even though i forgot to log it. my knees have really been hurting lately from the arthritis, so i’m working back up to 45 minutes. but, i’m doing the 30 minutes on 4 resistance, which is good.

weighing in

January 24, 2008

i try not to weigh myself during the week (though it’s hard to stop myself), but today i did just for the hell of it. i was hoping to still be where i was at last week’s weigh-in, despite not exercising for several days and not really being too concerned about my calorie count. but, i was down 1.2 pounds to 163.2. i was shocked, to say the least. i really hope that sticks until tomorrow’s weigh-in (or maybe goes down even more!).

back to the grind

January 23, 2008

i had a good workout tonight. i didn’t go as long as i wanted on the bike, but i did 30 minutes on 4 resistance. i decided to stop because my knees were starting to hurt. i took a few days off last week because i thought i was pregnant and, being paranoid, didn’t know if the exercise would hurt it. but, i found out that i’m not, so i’m getting back into the swing of things. i’m dying to lose this weight. or at least the tightness i’ve felt in my pants lately.

running man
8 lbs, 12 reps, 3 sets

bent rows

i did really well food-wise today. i had some girl scout cookies at work and was feeling really guilty about it, but when i searched for them on calorie king i discovered i hadn’t been too bad at all — only 300 calories. tonight, we’re making a nice, healthy dinner of rice and stir fry. i should be on the low end of my calorie range today, which is good because that’s probably where i need to be to start losing the weight quickly.

is it really all in my head?

January 16, 2008

i hate getting ready for work in the mornings. i know that when i pick out an outfit and get dressed, it’s going to feel tight on me. no matter how much i work out or how well i count my calories, it always happens. then, my husband gets a phone call from his very distressed wife complaining that nothing fits anymore.

he says it’s all in my head. and, i guess he has a point. if my clothes really fit that much tighter every day, i’d probably weigh several hundred pounds by now. the problem is figuring out how to get out of that mindset. i try to make myself think positively, but it still doesn’t work. i long for the day when i will actually feel good about myself instead of looking in the mirror and seeing a disgusting, ugly person. i want to feel as beautiful as my husband says i am. i just worry that day will never come.

maybe i need counseling.

the gym, day 2

January 11, 2008

yesterday was my second day at the gym. i took tuesday off, and i went wednesday, but i couldn’t find a parking space anywhere, so i came home and did a light workout on the bike plus my weights.

yesterday was a good workout. i got in 45 minutes, and i was exhausted afterward. i could barely feel my legs when i was walking to my car! i’m really hoping to see results from this soon. joe says i already am because i can tell my legs are much more muscley than they were. i want to see results on the scale, though. and in how my clothes fit. i guess i just have to give it more time.

cardio
15 minutes bike
8 minutes wave machine
22 minutes treadmill

weekly weigh-in

January 11, 2008

week 2: 164.6

i’m up 4 pounds from last week. and no, i did not eat like a cow this week. i worked out 3 days and stuck to my calorie limit. i gained the 4 pounds in two days, which is impossible to do, so i’m thinking it was water weight or bloating from my soon-to-happen tom. honestly, i can’t think of any other reason. a pound is an extra 3,500 calories, so 4 pounds would be an extra 14,000 calories, which works out to 7,000 extra calories a day. that’s a little under a *weekly* total for me. needless to say, i’m ready for my monthly visitor to get here already so i can lose this extra weight. does anyone else notice this happen around your tom too?

monday, jan. 7, 2008

January 7, 2008

today was the first day of my 2-week trial at the new gym. i did 8 minutes on the wave machine, which is a cross between a stairclimber and an elliptical, and 25 minutes on the bike. the wave machine wore me out. i tried to do 10 minutes, but i was wiped out after 8. i could barely walk when i got off! i have yet to figure out the machines. i can’t get them to change programs, and the resistance level on the bike kept changing on its own, which was really distracting.

cardio
8 minutes wave machine
25 minutes bike (resistance level: 2)

weekly weigh-in

January 4, 2008

i’m down 4 pounds! even though it’s been two weeks since i last weighed myself, that’s a pretty good loss…an average of 2 pounds a week. i’m happy with that. i was going to work out today, but i haven’t been sleeping well the last couple of nights (i woke up at 2 a.m. and didn’t fall back asleep until 5 a.m. today), so i’m exhausted. oh well. i’m just glad it’s back to my regular routine now that the holidays are over.

i’m thinking about joining a gym. it’s women only, which i love, and it’s a really nice gym. it even has a day spa and hair salon. the owners really knew what they were doing to attract customers! they have some awesome classes, and the shower room is really nice. at the ymca, where i used to go, it was a sterile locker room. this gym’s shower room is carpeted with shower stalls (yay!), robes, towels, hair dryers and curling irons, and table lamps giving it soft lighting. i loved it. i start my 2-week trial on monday. if i join in the first week i get a free t-shirt and gym bag. woo hoo. i’m still debating, though, if i really want to spend the money on a membership right now.
